A Bengaluru-based Malayalee man was killed in a tragic accident in Munnar on Saturday evening when he was ran over by a car driven by his wife.

IT professional Ashok Sukumaran Nair, a cycling enthusiast, was in the hill station for a family vacation. Ashok had brought his mountain bike along from Bengaluru and was riding it, with his wife Reshmi and children Sraddha (7) and Shreya (5) following him in their car.

With the children fiddling with the car's stereo system, Reshmi tried to reduce the volume and lost control of the vehicle, which struck Ashok and ran him over. Reshmi rushed an unconscious Ashok to the Tata Tea hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.

The accident occurred near Vaguvarai on the Munnar-Marayur road around 7 pm on Saturday.

Reshmi is yet to recover from the shock of the incident and has been hospitalised. The family is settled in Harlur, Bengaluru.
