First year MTech student of NIT, Calicut, found hanging in college hostel

MTech student found hanging in college hostel

A first year M Tech student of National Institute of Technology, Calicut, committed suicide on Saturday. He was found hanging from the window bars of his hostel room. 

This is the second such incident being reported from the college in the last three months. The deceased is Arun Krishnan, 23, son of Matathinkalkkara Surendran from Malayinkal, Thiruvananthapuram. He had joined for MTech, Nanotechnology, at NIT, Calicut, on June 28. 

The body of Krishnan was found hanging in his hostel room at 11 am. The student was last found on Friday evening. He did not come out of the room on Saturday morning. As the room was locked from inside and Krishnan was not picking up his phone his friends became suspicious and broke open the door, Circle Inspector of Police Biju K K said. 

Though the friends rushed Krishnan to the hospital, he was declared brought dead. The police also found a suicide note from his room in which it was written that it is more fun to die than to live. 

A case of unnatural death has been registered, and the police will take the statement of teachers and other students.

This is the second suicide by a student of the college in last three months. Golla Ramakrishna Prasad, a first year B Tech student from Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh was found hanging in his hostel room in July. The police probe found that the teen was suffering from depression.
