Vikram, a construction labourer who hails from Assam, has been arrested in connection with the incident reported from Kazhakoottam, Thiruvananthapuram.

The accused, who is understood to be a drug addict, was taken to a mental health institution in the area, after court proceedings.

The Doberman belonged to Harikumar, the brother of Vikram's employer, who lived near the Arasum Moodu temple in Kazhakoottam.

Vikram reached Harikumar's house and reportedly slit the dog's throat through the kennel before dragging the animal away to a deserted area. He then cut up the dog before grilling and eating it.

A group of head-load workers, who were alerted by another migrant labourer who saw Vikram, rushed to the spot but the accused confronted them with a knife.

One of the workers was injured in the scuffle that followed. The accused also tried to assault the police officers who took him into custody.
