Liquor bottles TVM general hospital minister surprise inspection

In a shocking incident, liquor and beer bottles were found at the Thiruvananthapuram general hospital during a surprise inspection conducted by health minister KK Shailaja on Thursday.

The bottles were found near ward no.1. Bloodstained cotton, used syringes and other waste materials were also found abandoned in several wards. Shailaja slammed the hospital superintendent and other officials over the incident and warned that they would lose their jobs if the hospital is not cleaned in 24 hours.

Shailaja, who reached the hospital around 8.15 am, conducted inspection for around two hours. The minister's surprise visit, to evaluate the hospital's preparedness to contain the spreading of contagious diseases, came a day after 51 dengue cases were reported from the capital.

The health minister also examined the attendance sheet as she had received complaints that employees, including doctors, do not reach the hospital on time on most days.

Shailaja said the the government will not accept any dereliction of duty and stressed that the onus was on the hospital authorities to ensure that such mismanagement do not occur on its premises.
