MBBS student's suicide: Was Ooshmal Ullas a victim of cyberbullying?
- Two days before she took the extreme step, Ooshmal had put up a Facebook post with a screenshot of some comments, which ridiculed her
- Confession pages of colleges and universities usually have secret admirers anonymously confessing their love to their batch mates
- However, KMCT Xposed, which was formed only a month ago, appears more like a platform for keyboard warriors to indulge in cyberbullying
While the police are yet to confirm the reason behind the suspected suicide of Ooshmal Ullas, a student at a private medical college in Kozhikode, the youngster's recent Facebook post has raised suspicions of her being a victim of cyberbullying.
Ooshmal, a final year MBBS student at the KMCT Medical College at Mukkam, allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday evening, by jumping off the top floor of her college building.
Two days before she took the extreme step, Ooshmal had put up a Facebook post with a screenshot of some comments, made by a male student of the same college, ridiculing her. The comments apparently had "a direct reference" to one of her posts in the college confession page called 'KMCT Xposed - MBBS Confessions'.

Unlike most other confession pages of colleges and universities, where secret admirers anonymously confess their love to their batch mates, KMCT Xposed, which was formed only a month ago, appears more like a platform for keyboard warriors to indulge in cyberbullying and online harassment.
Here is a post we found on the KMCT Xposed page, which was allegedly sent to the admin by Ooshmal, partly protesting the cyberbullying happening against her.
According to reports, Ooshmal had reportedly received a phone call minutes before she jumped off the building. The police have not disclosed any further details on this, claiming they need to question her friends, classmates and other acquaintances first.
Ooshmal leapt to her death from the top floor of the college building on Wednesday evening, and suffered serious injuries to her legs and spine. She was rushed to the intensive care unit of KMCT Medical college but she succumbed to her injuries.
The youngster is the daughter of Dharmapalan, who is a native of Edathuruthy in Thrissur. The police have stated that though the incident happened at 4.45 pm, the college authorities informed them of the incident only around 7.30 pm.
