Actress attack: How tip-off from a commuter turned crucial in the case

Congress leader and Thrikkakara MLA PT Thomas has revealed that a common man's statement provided the crucial breakthrough in the probe into the Kochi actress attack case.

Thomas said that the turning point in the sensational case came from the information provided by a Palakkad native, even before prime accused Pulsar Suni's arrest back in February. The man overheard a phone conversation of a female lawyer during a train journey to Thiruvananthapuram and informed the Aluva police station, which led to the breakthrough in the investigation.

“A Palakkad native who was travelling to Thiruvananthapuram overheard the phone conversation of a female lawyer from Ernakulam, who was in the same compartment with him in the train. The lawyer spoke about the case and also matters related to Chief Minister's office. The man got in touch with the Aluva police and passed on the information. Following this, the police nabbed the lawyer from the Thiruvananthapuram railway station and questioned her. This was even before the arrest of Pulsar Suni," reports quoted Thomas as saying.

Earlier, ADGP B Sandhya, who is leading the probe team, had also said that at a common man gave crucial leads to the police in the case. Actor Dileep was arrested on charges of conspiracy in the case recently and is currently in remand in the Aluva sub-jail.

Thomas made the disclosure when he arrived at the Ernakulam guest house on Friday to give his statement in the case. "I cannot disclose the details of the statement I gave to police", the Thrikkakara MLA, who has been pressing for a CBI probe into the incident, told reporters completing the procedure. 

Thomas had met the actress at director Lal's residence hours after the incident on the night of February 17. 

Vowing to continue his fight for ensuring justice to the victim, the Thomas said he shared with the police "some doubts" he had about the incident. The Congress leader also stressed that he would continue following up he case very closely and added that he would strongly resist any attempt to "deviate" the investigation from its path.
