In a first, this bar in Kerala has employed two women as bartenders. Though it is very common in foreign countries, women usually do not work in bars in Kerala.

One of them is Raji, a native of Koothattukulam and the other one is Jyotsna from Odisha. They work as bartenders at Johan's Bar in Thodupuzha in Idukki district.

Johan's got approval for a bar only recently, and the owner decided to offer the job to women as well. He gave the advertisement in WhatsApp an Facebook.

It was Jyotsna who called the owner after seeing the ad. Raji decided to join her friend as both of them were working together at Thiruvananthapuram.

Both the women are happy in their job and said they never had to encounter any issues from customers. The owner is also satisfied with their performance.

The duty time has been fixed from noon till night. The management is also providing vehicle facility to ensure that the women reach their place of residence safely, reports Kairali.

"We are getting calls from several girls. The calls are not only from Kerala but also Bengal and Manipur. We are planning to employ more women in the job," general manager Shaji said.
