Jishnu's mother Mahija has stated that her fight for justice is against the police department, and not the state government.

The LDF government had come under fire for the ill-treatment that Mahija and Jishnu's family members faced at the police headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday. News reports showed police personnel dragging the protesters including Mahija away. The relatives alleged Mahija was also assaulted by the police during the face-off. She is currently holding a hunger strike at the hospital she was admitted to.

However, Mahija has now said her protest is against the police team probing the case and that she would continue till her son gets justice. She also claimed that she is unaware of CM Pinaryi Viajayan's stand on the issue.

Jishnu, a first-year student at the Nehru College of Engineering in Pampady, was found hanging in the college hostel's bathroom in January.

Second accused Sanjith arrested

Meanwhile, the probe team has arrested Sanjith Viswanathan, the second accused in the case.

Sanjith, the PRO of Nehru College, was asked to appear at the Irinjalakuda police station on Wednesday evening. He has been granted anticipatory bail and would be released after interrogation.

Sanjith is the son of Congress leader and former forest minister KP Viswanathan. Prime accused P Krishnadas was arrested and released after being questioned on Tuesday.
