Several parts of Kerala experienced heavy rains in the last 24 hours, while landslips occurred at hilly areas including Idukki and Wayanad.

Landslips occurred at Kanjiyaar and Pandipara near Kattappana in Idukki, causing damage to crops and property, official sources said.

Water level at the Idukki dam increased by about 2.5 feet on Tuesday as the catchment area of the reservoir was getting heavy rains. Shutters of Malankara reservoir in Idukki were opened following raise in water level.

In the northern part, landslides occurred in Waynad. A landslip on the Thamarassery pass held up traffic along the Kozhikode-Wayanad route for over three hours on Tuesday.

District administrations have given holiday for majority of schools and professional colleges in Alappuzha, Idukki, Kollam and Ernakulam.

The State Disaster Management Authority issued warning to the people living in hilly and coastal areas as it was reported that heavy rain would continue for next three more days.

Efforts are on to activate taluk-level control rooms and relief camps.
