In a gruesome incident, unknown assailants assaulted a young Congress leader in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday night and chopped off his genitals.
Congress' Kattakkada constituency general secretary Sajikumar was attacked at his residence by a group of armed men. The victim, who also suffered fractures on his arm and legs, has been admitted to ICU of the Government Medical College Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.
The assailants barged into Sajikumar's residence in Ooruttambalam at 11 pm on Thursday, before tying him up and attacking him. They hit him with iron rods, breaking left arm and both legs.
Sajikumar and his mother were the only ones present at the house during the attack. The perpetrators fled when neighbours reached the spot, hearing the mother's cries for help.
The police have recovered two scooters, suspected to be used by the assailants, from a road near Sajikumar's house. The probe team refused to share more details but it is understood that political enmity wasn't the reason behind the attack.
Sajikumar has been working as a conductor with the KSRTC on a temporary basis. He is unmarried.
