Actor and Pathanapuram MLA KB Ganesh Kumar has once again found himself in the eye of the storm, after making some controversial comments while visiting Dileep at the Aluva sub-jail.

Speaking to mediapersons after meeting the actor on Tuesday, Ganesh said that those who have received favours from Dileep, should support him at this time. Claiming that many people have received favours from the jailed actor before he was "struck by misfortune", the Kerala Congress (B) leader urged the film fraternity to stand by Dileep till his crime is proved before the court of law.

"The film fraternity must declare its support to the actor. No one have the right to call a person a culprit till his crime is proved before the court of law. He is innocent till proven guilty. We should understand the pain Dileep's mother, daughter and wife are in," he pointed out.

Ganesh also lamented that the people who had taken favours from Dileep were reluctant to stand by him fearing the police and general public.

"When a person is struck by misfortune, his friends and co-workers should stand by him. Several persons currently working in the Malayalam film industry have received favours from Dileep. However, most of them are not supporting him, fearing that the police will question them or monitor their activities.

"An MLA, who was directly involved in a sexual harassment case, has been granted bail, while an artist is being denied the same. I am against such practices, I feel everyone should get justice. Only time will tell if there were any lapses in the police investigation."

However, there has been accusations from various sections that Ganesh, a legislator who is part of the ruling LDF, was taking sides again with this comments and is trying to generate a sympathy wave in support of Dileep.

Earlier, Ganesh had come under severe criticism for defending Dileep vociferously before the mediapersons during an AMMA general body meeting a few days before his arrest in July. Ganesh took U-turn from that stand after Dileep's arrest, saying he "never expected this" from the actor.

Dileep, charged under various IPC sections including criminal conspiracy, has been lodged in the Aluva sub-jail since his arrest on July 10. The police claim that the conspiracy to abduct and assault the actress in a moving car on February 17 in Kochi, as well as to film the act, was hatched by Dileep.
