A trial court in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday denied bail to Congress leader and Kovalam MLA M Vincent, who was arrested on charges of sexually harassing and stalking a woman.

Vincent was arrested on Saturday and remanded to a 14-day judicial custody. The court upheld the prosecution's argument that if Vincent is given bail, he could hamper the probe or even harm the victim as he is an influential politician.

The Congress legislator's counsel later told the media that they will move a fresh bail application at the district and sessions court. Vincent and the Congress have accused the CPM and its leaders of framing him in the case.

Meanwhile, Vincent's phone will be sent for forensic tests. The phone was recovered by the probe team from the MLA hostel and will be passed on for forensic analysis to retrieve information regarding the calls and messages he made to the victim.

Vincent has been accused of raping a 51-year-old woman, who later attempted to commit suicide by overdosing on sleeping pills. After a complaint from the woman's husband, the police questioned the Congress MLA for over three hours at the MLA hostel on July 22 after which he was arrested.
