Kerala teacher sets herself ablaze after fiance sexually abuses her

  • The marriage between the victim and the accused was fixed for November 12

Kerala police have arrested one person in connection with the suicide of a teacher in Thodannur, Kozhikode. The teacher committed suicide by setting herself ablaze in her house. 

The arrested is Sandeep, 30, a native of Peruvayal in Kozhikode, is a staff with the Thodannur Block Resource Centre of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan. He was the fiance of the deceased, who has been working as a teacher at a parallel college. Sandeep has been booked on charges of rape and abatement to suicide. 

The wedding was fixed for November 12, but Sandeep backed off from the marriage. Though the family members held a discussion with Sandeep, he was not ready to budge, and this led to the suicide of the woman. 

The family members also found a suicide letter written by the teacher and in that she had explained the factors that made her decide to end her life. She had written that after fixing the marriage, the duo visited several places and had a sexual relationship. 

The woman had also explained the incidents to one of her close relatives. She has also said that Sandeep was constantly harassing her, both mentally and physically, stating various reasons. 
Sandeep backed off from the marriage after the family of the woman started inviting people for the marriage. She couldn't bear this and decided to commit suicide.
