Talk about being farsighted and prepared. The BJP leadership in Kerala has earmarked a room as 'Chief Minister's office' at its new party headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram, it has emerged.

The development, reported by Malayala Manorama, hints at the saffron party's increasing focus on Kerala and its confidence in capturing power in the state in the near future.

The Mararji Bhavan near Aristo Junction, which currently functions as the headquarters, will be demolished to construct the new state-of-the-art 53,000 sq ft building. It will have eight floors, with two below the ground, according to reports. The first floor will host the offices of the party's state president and the aforementioned 'Chief Minister'.

The foundation stone for the new party headquarters in the capital was laid by BJP president Amit Shah during his visit to Kerala earlier this month. "The foundation to form BJP government in Kerala is complete today. We will have offices in every district of India by December 2019," Shah had said after the event.

The veteran leader exhorted the workers to ensure an increase in the vote share of the party in Kerala from the present 15 per cent to a "minimum of 40 per cent", which, he said was essential for a poll victory in a three-cornered contest.

It has to be noted that the BJP currently has only a single legislator in the 140-member Kerala Assembly, with O Rajagopal sparing the party's blushes by winning the Nemom constituency in the elections held last year. 71 seats are required for simple majority in the Assembly.
