The income tax department has reportedly found massive tax evasions committed by the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).

AMMA allegedly failed to disclose revenue expenditure worth over Rs 7 crore while filing the statement before IT department in 2015, according to a report by The New Indian Express.

The organisation had received Rs 8.15 crore from two private television channels for organising several stage shows between 2013 and 2015, according to the IT department. One channel paid the organisation Rs 6.10 crore, while the other gave them Rs 2.05 crore.

However, a probe found that of the Rs 8.15 crore it received, AMMA disclosed only Rs 1 crore to the IT department in the statement it filed in 2015. The organisation claimed the rest of the revenue was used for charitable purposes but have not been able to submit any documents to prove the same.

Meanwhile, AMMA approached the Appeal Authority against any action by the IT department. The organisation has also secured an interim bail from the Kerala High Court against legal actions such as recovery.
