The Kerala High Court on Friday postponed the hearing in the bail plea of actor Dileep, an accused in the Kochi actress attack case, to August 22.

The HC stated it will consider the bail plea on Tuesday after the prosecution requested for postponement as its lawyers were out of town, attending the funeral of former Advocate General MK Damodaran in Kannur.

Director General Manjeri Sreedharan Nair, who is appearing for the prosecution, did not appear in the court on Friday as he had gone to Kannur. Dileep’s advocate B Raman Pillai arrived in the court but informed the bench that he is not against postponing the hearing.

Dileep's arrest came on July 10 after the police found evidence against him as a key conspirator in the abduction and attack of the actress. Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) suspended Dileep from its primary membership after the arrest.

The Angamaly first class magistrate's court had earlier denied Dileep's initial bail plea. The actor then approached the High Court, which also turned down his plea on July 24. Dileep then employed Raman Pillai as his counsel, replacing K Ramkumar who appeared twice on his bail plea, before filing another plea before the High Court this month.
