Woman arrested for smuggling gold in sanitary napkin

  • The woman, a call centre employee agreed to carry gold bars for a mere Rs 10,000

Woman arrested for smuggling gold in sanitary napkin

A 35-year-old woman was arrested at the Kempegowda International Airport after she was found smuggling gold bars in sanitary napkins. The arrested is identified as Farhana Begum, a call centre employee who lives with her kids in the City.

During the special drive, the KIA customs duty officials grew suspicious after Farhana walked out after clearing the checking. It was her the walking gait that made the officials suspicious about her and they immediately stopped her and subjected her to intense scrutiny, reports Kannada Prabha.

During the checking, it was found that Farhana was carrying 100 gm gold bars worth lakhs of rupees in sanitary napkins. During the interrogation, Farhana has reportedly told the police that she had gone to Bangkok in search of a livelihood. But she could not find a better job over there and so she decided to return. During her stay,  she met a person, who lured to her smuggle the gold for a mere Rs 10,000. Farhana who was reportedly in need of money readily agreed to carry it. "They told me to give the gold biscuits to someone outside the airport for Rs 10,000," reports Kannada Prabha quoting Begum. The police have taken Begum into custody for further questioning.

The customs officials have also confiscated a juice maker as gold bars were hidden in its handle. Ashfaq Ahmed Kakade, a Bhatkal resident who arrived from Dubai had this juicer in his luggage. Upon, investigating the officials found that the gold was hidden in its handle. The police have seized the juicer which reportedly had 800 gms of gold in it.

Another air passenger from Sri Lank has also been detained for reportedly smuggling gold in a suitcase. The suitcase handle was reportedly wrapped in a golden thread to avoid being detected, reports Kannada Prabha.
