Minister DK Shivakumar seeks two days time to face IT grill

Tough days are not yet over for Energy minister DK Shivakumar as he has been asked to appear before the Income Tax sleuths for questioning on Monday. However, the minister has sought two days' time to appear before the officials.

After conducting a raid for nearly 74 hours on minister Shivakumar, his relatives and friends, the IT sleuths have allegedly found Rs 300 crore worth undisclosed properties. Of which, Rs 100 crore worth undisclosed properties allegedly belonged to minister Shivakumar alone. The remaining Rs 200 crore worth properties reportedly belonged to Shivakumar's families and friends. The IT sleuths have issued summons to the minister seeking explanation on these undisclosed properties.

"As per the law, I have been served notice to appear before the IT officials. Nobody can defy the law of the land. I will appear for inquiry," said Energy minister DK Shivakumar, reports Kannada Prabha. However, the minister has sought two days' time citing personal reasons. So, it is highly unlikely that he will appear for inquiry on August 7.

Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) may file a case based on the findings of the IT raid. If the ED begins its probe, then there are all possibilities that Shivakumar may be taken to custody for questioning, reports Kannada Prabha.

The IT sleuths have also issued summons to Shivakumar's acquaintance Dwarakanath guruji and sources told Kannada Prabha that Dwarakanath will appear before the IT sleuths on Monday. The summons have also been issued to Shivakumar's father-in-law Thimmaiah, his aide Vinay Kartik, Balaji and others.

It may be recalled here that the IT sleuths armed with 40 search warrants swooped on Shivakumar's residences at Sadashivanagar and New Delhi and his father-in-law's house in Mysuru. They also searched Dwarakanath Guruji, whom Shivakumar has known since 30 years. Besides, there were reports that the IT officials conducted a raid on Karntaka Bhavan in New Delhi, his aide Vinay Kartik and others. The marathon raid that went on for 74 hours has allegedly yielded Rs 300 crore wroth undisclosed properties.
