It was a shocking outing for Mumbai City FC as it was drubbed 4-2 by former champion Bengaluru FC in the 2020-21 Indian Super League, at the GMC Stadium in Goa, on Monday. While City continues to stay at the second spot, Bengaluru has climbed to sixth place.

It all started with Cleiton Silva's opening minute strike for Bengaluru, while he doubled it in the 22nd minute. Although Adam Le Fondre pulled one back for City in the 50th, Sunil Chhetri put in the third in 57th. Le Fondre scored the second in the 72nd, but Chhetri scored the fourth and the winner in the 94th to seal it for Bengaluru.

Following the game, City boss, Sergio Lobera blasted his boys for being too lacklustre, as they conceded four at the closing stages of the league encounter. "I am not happy. The result is not what we wish. We conceded four goals; we had a lot of chances to score. It is very important to score the first goal. They are a strong team with very good players. No this is not the most difficult period for me," he said, reports Sportstar.

"It depends on how it goes in the last game to go top of the table. Remaining three games is in our hands. We need to analyse a lot of things and put the focus on the next two games. We need to be loyal. We are strong in our style of play, in our philosophy," he added.

Meanwhile, interim Bengaluru manager, Naushad Moosa credited Chhetri for his calm and composed gameplay. "What I can say is that he is the captain and a leader. He motivates the players. And, you can see his frustration also when the team is not playing well. It was very important for him to stay calm today and keep motivating the players, and it worked," he appraised, reports goal.com.

"It was very important. The only way to win these three games is to play like a team and today, they showed. Didn't say the (playoff) hopes are off. I said that the way the other teams are getting draws, so there are possibilities and we have to just keep playing the way we did today," he concluded.
