David Williams reveals reason for his success at ATK Mohun Bagan-ayh

Indian football giant ATK Mohun Bagan is off to a rocking start in the Indian Super League (ISL), as in the ongoing season, it is currently placed second. It is coming off a match-winning performance against former champion Bengaluru FC, on Monday.

Meanwhile, club striker, David Williams has been on a roll in the past few games, while he played the pivotal role in the win on Monday. Speaking on the same, Williams has revealed his reason for success and who does he dedicate it.

“I am feeling quite good as I kept my words for the members-supporters of the Green-Maroon team. It always cannot be done. But, for the time being, I am happy for two reasons: 1) I started scoring for the new season by scoring against one of the best teams in the country. 2) We were able to take ATK Mohun Bagan to a better place in the league table. There was pressure as I was not getting goals. I knew that if I score a goal, then everything would be fine. I will be happier if I can score more goals,” he was quoted as saying by ATK Mohun Bagan.

On being asked as to what motivated him to score the goal, Williams revealed, “I was motivated to score against Bengaluru when I saw Gurpreet Singh. If India’s best goalkeeper is on the opposite side, there is a different satisfaction in beating him. Not only Gurpreet, but also Bengaluru itself is a very good team. Their team always tries to play in accordance with an organized plan. Our team also played very well on Monday. We also won the final match against them last year. Maybe, that’s why we were mentally in an advantageous place in Monday’s match.”

Interestingly, he has dedicated his recent Man of the Match award to his wife and two sons, Speaking on the same, Williams explained, “It would be unfair to dedicate this goal and the Man of the Match award to anyone. The list is long. I want to dedicate the goal to my wife and to my two sons because they inspire me every day in spite of the fact that I have left them behind and came to work so far. I will also talk about my parents. I received a message of greetings and blessings from them at the time of getting on the bus before going to the field on Monday. I will also talk about the physio and masseur of the team. They have helped me to heal. And even, I have to talk about my teammate Prabir Das. Prabir’s birthday was on Monday. He also had a good day because we won the match. I am also dedicating the goal to him.”

On the upcoming games
“I just started scoring goals. I hope I can score more goals after that. There are still many matches left in the league. I will have eight more days before the next match. Hopefully, during this time, I will be able to get on the field by making myself more physically fit. Even if I don’t score a goal, I will be happy if the team wins.”

On the Bengaluru game
“Like the coach, even I think we played very well in the first half of the last two matches. Before the Bengaluru match, the coach instructed us to keep our target intact for ninety minutes and fight together. We played well despite some problem at the end of the second half.”

On the goal
“Honestly, my goal against Bengaluru on Monday was not looked back after getting back to the hotel. Maybe, this is the best goal for many. However, considering the importance, the goal scored with a header against Bengaluru in the semi-final at the home ground last year may be a little ahead.”

On Roy Krishna
“Roy Krishna is in his own form. I am also trying to give the best. The pairing will become effective by itself. It’s just a matter of time.”
