Former champion, Chennaiyin FC succumbed to a 0-2 defeat to Hyderabad FC in the 2020-21 Indian Super League, at the Tilak Maidan in Goa, on Sunday. With this loss, Chennaiyin remains at sixth, while Hyderabad has jumped to the third spot.

It all began in the 28th minute, with a strike from Francisco Sandaza. Meanwhile, the winner was scored by Joel Chianese in the 83rd minute.

Following the game, Chennaiyin boss, Csaba Laszlo lashed out at his boys, stating that they are not paid for missing goal-scoring chances. "At times, I am speechless. This is really disappointing. The first half was not a good game for us, but even the opponent did not have many chances. From one chance, they scored one goal. But, I almost compliment my players for the spirit they showed, but on the other hand, if you don't score goals, you will never win matches," he said, reports goal.com.

"I work with pleasure with my players. In two games, once against ATK Mohun Bagan and once against Hyderabad in the first leg, we didn't create many chances. But, that is two matches out of 15. Football is about victory; it is about goals. If I look at the statistics, we will be at the top in terms of creating and missing chances. Today, we had three or four clear chances, but we can just keep those statistics in our pockets because that does not give us three points," he added.

"My message to all my players is don't think even for a minute after losing a game that it is not possible because everything is possible and it is up to us. Even today, it was possible to win; it was up to us. We couldn't because we missed chances," he further asserted.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad manager, Manuel Marquez expressed his delight by saying, "Too many people say that draws are nothing, but I don't agree, draws are better than losing. After so many draws, we eventually had to win. We needed this win and we deserved this because in the last four games, we were closer to winning the games than our opponents."

"Chennaiyin are a team who always have chances. I told my players that in the first phase when we met, we were the two teams with the most number of chances in the entire league. Maybe, they failed to score some clear cut chances, but the most important thing is they played a game after six days while we played in less than three days. The second half was very long for us and the second goal practically sealed the match,' he continued, reports goal.com.

"Fran (Sandaza) is a striker with a lot of standard in Spain. He played with quality teams in the Spanish second division and he didn't play in the first division despite having offers. He was injured for most of the season, but now, he is recovering. Maybe, he is one of the best strikers in the entire league. He scored two goals in practically one game, as he played 55 minutes today and 30 minutes in the last game," he concluded.
