ISL 2020-21: Csaba Laszlo lashes out at Chennaiyin FC boys for squandering lead against NorthEast United FC
With this draw, Chennaiyin FC stays at the eighth spot, while NorthEast United FC maintains its fifth position. Chennaiyin is a former two-time champion, while NEU is looking to win its maiden title. Both the sides have been playing since 2014.
Former champion Chenniayin FC squandered an opportunity to grab three points, as it slipped to a 3-3 draw against NorthEast United FC in the 2020-21 Indian Super League at the GMC Stadium in Goa on Thursday. While Chennaiyin remains at eighth, NEU has maintained the fifth spot.
It all began with Lallianzuala Chhangte's eighth-minute opener for Chennaiyin, while Imran Khan levelled it at 14th, with Deshorn Brown handing the latter the lead at 43rd. Although Manu Lanzarote levelled it for Chennaiyin at 50th, with Chhangte restoring the lead at 52nd, Machado drew level again at 94th.
Following the game, Chennaiyin boss, Csaba Laszlo, was livid at his boys for dropping the all-important two further points in the game. "We were 2-1 down in the first half. But, we made three gifts for the opponents. You can't get such an easy goal. I'm also proud of the boys and how they managed and played the game. The last mistake, it was a misunderstanding between Sipovic and Vishal. We have to accept this and we will look to win the last game. We lost two points and it is painful," he fumed, reports goal.com.

"I told tactically about what to do better. Think that is the reason that the team is alive and wanted to win. They wanted to show we are not a team that wanted to give up. I think, in this case, I have to congratulate the boys for understanding what to follow. I think if we are more confident, we can score more goals. Last game, I want to see the same time with the same pride," he added.
Meanwhile, NEU manager Khalid Jamil, too, expected his side to do much better in terms of concentration. "You can say lack of concentration, but we came back and that is a good point. I don't have any doubt. All the boys worked very hard," he reckoned, informed Goal.
"We are never thinking about the remaining games. We are thinking about playing against East Bengal, which is a good side. So, we have to give our best. This is a big challenge. We are playing against a good team in the next game. So, we must think about the next game. We can do much better," he concluded.
