ISL 2021-22: ATK Mohun Bagan ropes in defender Ashutosh Mehta
ATK Mohun Bagan has begun its preparations for the upcoming Indian Super League season. Meanwhile, it has secured its latest signing, with defender Ashutosh Mehta coming from NorthEast United FC.
FollowIn another good news for ATK Mohun Bagan fans, the franchise has secured the signing of Indian defender Ashutosh Mehta. The 29-year-old previously played for NorthEast United FC.
It would not be Mehta’s first stint with ATKMB, having already played for ATK during the 2017-18 season. He also played for Mohun Bagan during the 2019-20 season of the I-League.
He has played 222 games to date, while he also has 11 goals to his name. As for his accolades, it includes twin I-League titles. Moreover, the upcoming ISL season would be his sixth while playing for his fifth ISL franchise. He made his ISL debut in 2015 with reigning champion Mumbai City FC.

“I like the football philosophy and the unyielding attitude of Habas Sir. The team has great unity. The team fights until the last minute. I am so proud to be able to sign for the best team in the country,” he said following his signing to ATKMB in a statement.
“I have an idea about the popularity of Kolkata football. I also know about the excitement, passion and love of ATK Mohun Bagan’s football fans for the club. ATK Mohun Bagan is a star-studded team. The challenge for me now is to secure a place in the first 11,” he added.
Franchise head coach Antonio Lopez Habas, too, seemed excited by Mehta’s signing, as he reckoned, “He is a complete player. He has great physical capacity, good airplay and remarkable technical-tactical conditions. At the same time, he can play in different positions in defensive lines of 3-4-5. We have a lot of expectations from him for the next season.” Since he is famous for being an attacking side back, he would likely be effective in Habas’s 3-5-2 formation.
