- David Warner finished unbeaten with 76 runs from 45 balls.
- Moises Henriques scored his second half-century of IPL 2017 as well.
It could never get more easier for the defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad as they almost strolled to a massive 9-wicket win over a clueless Gujarat Lions. Sunrisers Hyderabad had won the toss and asked Gujarat Lions to bat first. The SRH bowlers were spot on with their line and length right from the onset and they did not allow Gujarat Lions openers Brendon McCullum and Jason Roy to get away.
Gujarat Lions could only manage a paltry total of 135 runs in 20 overs and in the course they even lost 7 wickets. Afghanistan's leg spinner Rashid Khan was the star of the show as he picked up 3 wickets in his four overs and gave away only 19 runs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was no less as the Indian seamer picked up a couple of wickets in his four allotted overs by giving away just 21 runs. Gujarat Lions were never allowed to cut lose.
Warner and Shikhar Dhawan got off to a flier yet again. Unfortunately Dhawan got out quickly and then it was a Warner and Moises Henriques show. Henriques notched up his second fifty of the IPL and is looking in great touch. The good news for SRH is that there captain is back amongst runs and he has fired at the home ground yet again. For Gujarat Lions, it all looks bleak as they are still clueless about their team combination. They made the same mistake of playing four overseas batsmen and yet no James Faulkner.
At the end, Sunrisers Hyderabad reached the target with 28 balls to spare and with nine wickets in their bag. It was yet another thrashing for Gujarat Lions and they are in all sorts of trouble.
Gujarat Lions -- 135/7, Dwayne Smith 37 | Rashid Khan -- 4-0-19-3.
Sunrisers Hyderabad - 140/1, David Warner - 76*, Moises Henriques 52*.
