Delhi Daredevils (DD) defeated Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) by seven runs in a crucial fixture at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi on Friday evening. Steve Smith's RPS could have sealed the deal tonight and book a spot in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 playoff. But that did not happen as DD thwarted the Pune side quite efficiently.

As a result of this loss, RPS will now have to win their last match against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on Sunday. If KXIP manages to beat RPS, then the net run rate would come into play. But in that case, Sunrisers Hyderabad has to lose their last game against Gujarat Lions on Saturday.

However, the race will be done and dusted if Sunrisers Hyderabad beats Kings XI Punjab in that all important encounter in Kanpur. That would knock KXIP out of the race and finalise the top four. Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rising Pune Supergiant and Sunrisers Hyderabad will make it to the playoff with ease.

Then it will be a fight for the top two places in the IPL 2017 points table. Mumbai Indians will play Kolkata Knight Riders and the result of that match could determine the top two teams of the tournament.
