Gujarat Lions (GL) skipper Suresh Raina have come out and slammed Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) for not respecting the iconic legend of the Indian cricket team - MS Dhoni. RPS had relieved MS Dhoni from the captaincy duties ahead of the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017.

Steve Smith was appointed as the skipper of this RPS side. This did not please the Dhoni fans and a number of critics as well. However, many felt that relieving Dhoni off his captaincy duties would allow the former Indian captain to play his natural game. But that has not happened either.

Despite all of this, Raina believed that Dhoni deserves a lot more than such treatment as the latter is no less than a legend of the game and has done a lot for this Indian team and cricket as a whole.

“I was disappointed. He has done so well for the country as well as for the IPL teams. He should be respected every time. It’s about not me saying, it’s the world saying. Having shared the dressing room with him (for India and CSK), you know what goes through when one faces hardships. He (Dhoni) should be respected as a player," Raina was quoted as saying by PTI.

“In any profession, be it as a player or a journalist, you need to be respected. Even a player, however short his career span may be, wants to earn respect. I don’t think. He’s back among runs. Hope he will do well better after two-three matches. We have only played five matches. After some time, the picture will be clear. He should bat up the order and bat long. He’s a world class finisher.”
