- Kings XI Punjab had won the toss and pushed Rising Pune Supergiant to bat first.
- Rising Pune Supergiant fell short by at least 20 runs and KXIP capitalised.
Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) have made a terrific start to their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 campaign as they defeated and in-form Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) by 6 wickets. KXIP captain Glenn Maxwell led from the front and he made sure that his side goes over the line. His quick-fire innings towards the end, powered KXIP to a handsome victory. RPS did not have that shine like they had the other day against Mumbai Indians.
KXIP were off to a flier with the help of Hashim Amla and Manan Vohra as they notched up 56 runs in the first six overs. Steve Smith and co. did pull things back in the middle overs with the help of Imran Tahir and debutant Rahul Chahar. KXIP lost four wickets during their run chase but Maxwell and David Miller built a partnership and stood still right till the end of the run chase. Maxwell finished with 44* from just 20 balls and Miller remained unbeaten on 30* from 27 balls. KXIP won this game by six wickets and with one over to spare.
Earlier, KXIP had won the toss and asked the Supergiant to bat first. RPS were off to a really slow start as the KXIP bowlers did not give away anything to their opening batsmen. Mayank Agarwal failed yet again at the top of the order. Smith and Ajinkya Rahane tried to build a partnership but it did not help their cause. Rahane and Smith fell in quick succession. Axar Patel and Sandeep Sharma were the pick of the bowlers for KXIP.
Rising Pune Supergiant: Ben Stokes 50, Manoj Tiwary 43* | Axar Patel -- 4-0-27-1.
Kings XI Punjab: Glenn Maxwell 44*, David Miller 30* | Imran Tahir -- 4-0-29-2.
