Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have been one of the most successful franchises over the past few years in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Shah Rukh Khan-owned franchise has won the title twice in the last five years. Some of the players may have changed but the captain remained constant - Gautam Gambhir.

Gambhir has been one of the pillars since he replaced Sourav Ganguly as the captain of the side since 2012. The KKR fans went berserk and were furious with that decision of the management. But ever since then, Gambhir has been extremely consistent. His success rate is more than Ganguly. Under Ganguly, KKR never qualified in the top four. But under Gambhir KKR has reached the qualifiers thrice in the last five years.

Gambhir also has a strike rate of 124.13 ever since he became the skipper of KKR. The southpaw from Delhi is also one of the highest run-getters in the history of IPL. Gambhir has notched up 3877 runs in 139 matches at an average of just a little above 31. He also has 28 half-centuries as a captain and 33 overall. No other skipper has managed to score even 20.

KKR have won five matches out of their seven they have played in this edition of the IPL and they are well and truly on course for yet another playoff spot. Gambhir has notched up 243 runs in 7 matches at an average of 48.60 and he is expected to add more to that tally.

Let us all take a moment and appreciate the sense of calm he brought to this squad and the way he has led this side since 2012.
