The 10th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is just around the corner and Steve Smith-led Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) already has to deal with a bad news. MS Dhoni’s side will have to feature in the IPL 10 without a crucial hard-hitting all-rounder – Mitchell Marsh, who has suffered a serious shoulder injury recently.
Marsh, who was a part of the Australian Test squad, injured his shoulder during the second Test against India in Bengaluru. Marsh flew back to Australia and underwent the knife on Monday. The rehabilitation period has not yet been determined. But it seems, the talented all-rounder, who was retained by Rising Pune Supergiant, will be missing his second season with the franchise in IPL 10.
"Mitchell has been playing with a shoulder injury for most of the summer. We have been managing up until now, but unfortunately it has progressively deteriorated to a point where he is unable to function at the level required," Australia’s team physio David Beakley was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo.
However, it is definitely a loss for a side which will look to bounce back in the upcoming season of the IPL. But it should not worry Smith and MS Dhoni much as they have Ben Stokes in their ranks to make up for the loss. Marsh had left the IPL 2016 midway after a side strain as well.
In the previous season of the IPL, Rising Pune Supergiant was plagued by injuries as a result of which they lost a number of crucial players. They will hope that this year it will be a productive one for them, when it comes to results. Meanwhile, RPS can opt for an international all-rounder instead or they can make do with the team they already have.
