- KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir will face the selection conundrum on Friday.
- Gujarat Lions on the other hand is also spoilt as they have too many talented players in their ranks.
Gujarat Lions (GL) came as a surprise package in IPL 2016 as they topped the points table in their very first campaign. Suresh Raina and co. will look to emulate the same in IPL 2017 as well. Gujarat Lions will take on the two-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match no. 3 of IPL 2017 at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on Friday.
Gautam Gambhir will face the selection conundrum on Friday as he will find it difficult to make up for his star all-rounder Andre Russell, who will miss this year’s IPL. However, they have plenty of options up their sleeves in the form of Chris Woakes, Colin de Grandhomme, Chris Lynn and many more. But it will be difficult to find a combination of both batting and bowling.
“Maybe a combination of Manish Pandey's batting and Ankit Rajput's bowling can get us what Russell did. Not only Woakes but the entire team can try to fill in for Russell and for that you don't necessarily need an all-rounder. Maybe some other pair can do this," Gambhir was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
Gujarat Lions, on the other hand, is also spoilt as they have too many talented players in their ranks. It will be interesting to see whether Raina opts of Aaron Finch or goes with the new recruit Jason Roy at the top of the batting order.
Spinners Shadab Jakati and Shivil Kaushik will have to fight to hold on to their place in the playing XI. When Ravindra Jadeja comes in, one of the above spinners will have to make their way out of the playing XI.
