West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee calls for united protests by Opposition parties over Agriculture Bills
Chief minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee called for a united protest by all Opposition parties against two Agriculture Bills. The chief minister announced that Trinamool Congress women’s wing will hold a protest on September 22 in front of Gandhi Statue on Mayo Road, followed by protests by students on September 23 at the same venue and the party's farmers’ association on September 24.

Addressing a press conference at the State’s Secretariat, Mamata Banerjee said, “From our party, we express full support to the protest in Delhi which is organised by different Opposition parties. From tomorrow we will launch a sustained protest in the State against the Agriculture Bills. I will appeal to everyone in the country to protest this development.”

The Chief Minister announced that Trinamool Congress women’s wing will hold a protest on September 22 in front of Gandhi Statue on Mayo Road, followed by protests by students on Wednesday September 23 at the same venue and the party's farmers’ association on September 24.
The chief minister of West Bengal also spoke to suspended MPs from different political parties who were protesting in the Parliament against the development. Earlier in the day describing the suspension of eight MPs in Rajya Sabha as unfortunate Mamata Banerjee said that the development was “reflective of this autocratic Govt’s mindset that doesn’t respect democratic norms & principles”.
Despite accusations of “false propaganda” against the opposition by BJP leaders, the Trinamool leader is in tune with the CPM, the Congress and 18 other parties, including the Left Front. From CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury to state secretary Suryakanta Mishra, everyone is against the bill that was passed.
Sujan Chakraborty said “Democracy has been killed, and destruction of farmers and the country has been brought about. MPs have the right to ask for votes. If the BJP is sure of a majority, then why did it pass the bill in an unparliamentary manner with such loudness?”
Biman Basu, chairman of the Left Front, said in a statement, "Large corporate and business circles will be responsible for setting the price for repealing the Essential Commodities Act. Farmers will have to rely on the prices set by the corporates and as a result, poor sales will increase further.”
Eight MPs of the Opposition parties including two from Trinamool Congress Derek O’Brien and Dola Sen were suspended from Upper House on September 21 for their "unparliamentary behaviour" in the upper House on September 20, during the passage of two Agriculture Bills.
