#UnmaskingChina: 59 Chinese apps including TikTok, Helo banned by Indian government

The move of the Indian Government to ban these Chinese apps came amid tension with China following the June 15 clashes at Ladakh in which 20 Indian soldiers lost their lives

New Delhi: The government of India has banned 59 mobile apps with Chinese links on June 29.  The decision to ban the apps was taken amid tensions with China along the Line of Actual Control.

The order issued by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) stated that the 59 apps that have been banned by the Government of India "are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order”.

The development has come, following the Galwan Valley clash in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed.

The press release further said that the Ministry of Information Technology has received "many representations raising concerns from citizens regarding security of data and risk to privacy relating to operation of certain apps".

"The Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN) has also received many representations from citizens regarding security of data and breach of privacy impacting upon public order issues," the press release mentioned.
