Kodagu: Cauvery Sankramana, an auspicious festival of Kodavas, is celebrated on the first day of Tula or Tholyar month of the Hindu calendar which generally falls in mid-October.

This festival celebrates the birth of river Cauvery at Talacauvery located on Brahmagiri hills in Kodagu.

Every year thousands of devotees throng Talacauvery to witness this special occasion, however, this year the festivities were restricted only to the priests, government officials, selected guests and the media.

The countdown had begun days ago for the Cauvery Theerthodbhava, which occurred in Talacauvery on Saturday morning at 7:03am.

Owing to Covid-19 situation, the district administration had only allowed a limited number of people to be physically present during the event. Only those having COVID-19 negative reports could take part.

The live telecast of the Theerthodbhava was streamed on social and electronic media for a larger number of people to witness the auspicious event.

Also, no devotee was allowed to have a holy bath in the Talacauvery pond and collect the holy water from the pond.

However, the holy water was sprinkled on the devotees and the Temple Committee distributed Theertha (holy water) to devotees.
