Tarn Taran: Actor Sonu Sood who won accolades by helping the needy and the poor during the lockdown has pledged his support to four orphans of Punjab. These children lost their father in the Punjab hooch tragedy. The mother passed away soon after.

Sonu Sood will adopt the four children in order to shape their future. The children have been identified as 13-year-old Karanbir Singh, 11-year-old Gurpreet Singh, nine-year-old Arshpreet Singh, and seven-year-old Sandeep Singh.

The Punjab hooch tragedy has claimed the life of 113 people across the three districts of Tarn Taran, Amritsar and Gurdaspur in the last one week. Sukhdev Singh, who lived in Muradpur village of Tarn Taran district, was one of those who lost their lives. According to the sources, when Sukhdev Singh’s wife received the message of her husband’s death, she suffered a shock and died. Although the Punjab government has declared a compensation of Rs 5 lakh and a government job to family members of the deceased, there is no one to take care of Sukhdev’s four children. Actor Sonu Sood has taken up the responsibility to groom the four children.

The four children will be admitted to Matra Chhaya Orphanage of Punjab. Sonu read about the orphan children on 3 August after which he decided to adopt them.

Dr. Dinesh Gupta, chairman of the District Child Wellbeing Committee, said that application for the adoption of children can take place online through the Centralization Adoption Resource Agency (CARA). For the moment, the four children live with their relatives. Counseling is necessary for children, for which, the relatives of the children have been asked to meet the committee.
