According to police sources, some BJP workers were staging a blockade of the BT Road in protest against the arrest of party worker Bullet Roy for allegedly brandishing firearms tried to storm the police station and were lathi-charged by Rapid Action Force personnel.

However, the BJP claimed that its party workers were peacefully protesting outside the police station when suddenly they were brutally lathi-charged by police.
TMC MLA Nirmal Ghosh claimed that the BJP workers tried to snatch the firearms of the policemen. He said the agitation was going out of control and it was blocking the roads.

BJP state general secretary Sayantan Basu said several party workers, including women, were injured in the lathi-charge. The BJP workers were rushed to a nearby hospital.
