West Bengal registers 1,653 new COVID-19 cases; 40 more deaths
West Bengal on Tuesday (December 22) registered 1,653 new COVID-19 cases. According to the state health bulletin, 40 people died in the state in a single day.
Out of the 40 deaths, 10 people died in Kolkata and 8 from North 24 Parganas. The total death toll in Bengal is 9,439. The death toll rose to 2,882 in Kolkata.
The percentage of COVID positive cases out of total sample tests in West Bengal in the past 24 hours stands at 7.97. According to the state health bulletin, 388 people were infected with COVID in a single day in Kolkata. So far, a total of 1,20,503 COVID-19 cases were reported in Kolkata.
358 people were infected in one day in North 24 Parganas. However, despite the reduction in daily transmission, Kolkata tops the list in the number of COVID-19 infection followed by North 24 Parganas.
South 24-Parganas has registered 83 COVID cases in the past 24 hours. Hooghly has witnessed 65 COVID cases in the past 24 hours while the total tally from the district reached 27,859.
Howrah has so far seen a total 33,962 COVID cases so far out of which 72 have been affected in the past 24 hours.
According to the state health bulletin, 2,270 recovered in a single day in the state and returned home from the hospital. So far, the total number of recoveries in the state stands at 5,14,309. The recovery rate at 95.24 percent.
