Madhya Pradesh Tourism and Culture Minister Usha Thakur triggered a massive controversy with her claim that madrassas are breeding sites for terrorists.

The remarks came when Shivraj Singh Chouhan's minister was asked about the status of mid-day meals in madrassas.

Claiming that state support to madrassas should come to an end, she alleged: "All fundamentalism and terrorists have been bred in madarssas. Entire Jammu and Kashmir was turned into a factory of terrorism."

"What culture are they [madrasas] teaching? If you are a citizen of this country, then you see all fundamentalists and terrorists have grown in madrasas," Usha Thakur was quoted as saying by PTI.

The BJP leader's remarks come on the heels of Assam’s recent announcement to shut down state-run madrassas
