Manipur Election 2022 Result LIVE: Amit Shah thanks Manipur as BJP set to retain power in state

The Bharatiya Janata Party has retained the power in Manipur with full majority as it won 32 out of 60 seats. The magic number is 31 in the state. Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that the BJP's historic victory in Manipur is a testament to the people's faith in the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and citizen-centric governance.

The BJP looked all set to return to power in insurgency-hit Manipur, with the party bagging 27 seats in the 60-member Assembly and leading in five other constituencies, according to the latest data on the Election Commission website at 7:30 pm.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said, “I thank the people of Manipur. I thank our national leaders PM Modi, Amit Shah, JP Nadda for guiding us, and due to that, we’ve won in Manipur. Victory in Goa, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh shows PM Modi’s mantra of ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’.”

The Election Commission has declared the winners for 35 seats - with the BJP winning 17 and the JD(U) has managed to win 5. The Congress (which fought the elections in an alliance with five other parties) meanwhile has won 4 seats in the state, as per the EC.
 

BJP unit of Manipur has started celebrating their victory in state as the party has won over 21 seats. 

Union Home Minister Amit Shah took to Twitter to thank the people of Manipur as the BJP is set to retain power in state.

The ruling BJP coalition government in Manipur has crossed the magical number of 31 with winning 32 seats, as per the latest ECI data. Chief Minister N Biren Singh defeated his nearest Congress rival P Saratchandra Singh by 18,271 votes in Heingang seat.
 

According to the latest update by the Election Commission of India website, BJP has won 20 seats and is leading on 14. JD(U) won 5 and leading on one while Congress won 4 seats. 
 

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won 17 seats and is leading in 14 other constituencies, according to the latest trends of the Manipur Assembly election result. Meanwhile, as per the trends and results officially declared by the Election Commission of India (ECI), the BJP has won 15 seats and is leading in 14 others. 

Manipur Congress vice president Kh. Devabrata accepting the defeat, said, “We admit that the Congress is in deep crisis. In the hills we could have done well but the BJP intimidated the voters. We might lose out main opposition party status as well. We will need a serious introspection,” Devabrata added. 

The BJP is leading in 30 seats in Manipur, show trends, while the majority mark in the 60-seat Manipur assembly is 31. The trends suggest BJP is set to be the largest party in the state. Meanwhile, the NPP and JD(U) are leading in 7 seats each, and Congress in 6 seats.

The BJP is leading in 30 seats in Manipur, while the National People's Party (NPP) is leading in 9 seats, show trends. The Congress-led alliance is leading in 8 seats, while the Janata Dal (United) is leading in 4 seats, show trends. 
 

Three-time former Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has won from Thoubal defeating Leitanthem Basanta Singh of Bharatiya Janata Party, Irom Chaoba Singh of Janata Dal (United) and Konsam Michael Singh of Shiv Sena. 

JD(U) candidate wins Tipaimukh Assembly seat, defeating the BJP candidate. Also, JD(U) wins two seats in Manipur, leading in another two. 

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to retain power in Manipur as the party is leading in 28 seats, while the Congress is leading in 9. National People's Party (NPP) is also leading in 9 seats and JDU in 4 seats. 

BJP candidate Nemcha Kipgen on Thursday retained her seat in the Kangpokpi beating her nearest rival by a margin of 5,308 votes. Kipgen secured a total of 14,284 votes, while her rival JD-U candidate Soshim Gurung secured 8,976 votes.

The Election Commission declared BJP’s Dr Usham Deben Singh as the winner from the Wabgai seat. Congress leader Md. Fajur Rahim lost the election by a margin of 50 votes. According to the latest trends shared by the EC, the BJP is also leading in 20 seats.

The BJP is comfortably leading in 30 seats, while the Congress and NPP are leading in 9 seats each in Manipur. Meanwhile, trends show JD(U) leading in 2 seats. 

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh wins in Heingang seat by a margin of 18,000 seats. He defeated Congress candidate Saratchanda Singh. Singh has been the MLA of Heingang since 2002.

Former police officer Thounaojam Brinda, who left her service to contest from the Yaiskul Assembly seat in Imphal East, is currently in the third position with 3,650 votes in the fourth round. Sitting BJP MLA Th Satyabrata is leading in the constituency with 6,816 votes.  Trailing behind him is NPP candidate H Vikramjit Singh with 6,266 votes.
 

The BJP has raced ahead in Manipur, according to the latest trends. The BJP is leading in 29 seats while Congress in 10, National People’s Party (NPP) in 10 and JD(U) in 3. 

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh is currently leading by 2,598 votes in the Heingang constituency. Former CM and Congress leader Okram Ibobi Singh leads in Thoubal by 1225 votes.

According to the latest trends, BJP is leading in 28 seats while Congress in 10, NPP in 11 and JD(U) in 3.

According to early trends made available by the Election Commission, the Janata Dal (United) is ahead in four seats - Hiyanglam, Sekmai, Uripok and Thangmeiband.

Though the JD(U) is a BJP ally, it has fought the Assembly polls in states like Manipur and Uttar Pradesh on its own after its senior partner turned down its offer of an alliance. A number of former BJP leaders, several of whom quit the party after not getting tickets for the polls, have fought on the JD(U) symbol.

According to the early trends from 26 constituencies in Manipur, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in 24 seats while Congress in 12, NPP in 12, JD(U) in 4 and others in 8. Manipur CM N Biren Singh is leading in his constituency, Heingang.

The NPP and NPF, leading in 10 and 3 seats, can now become kingmakers if the BJP or Congress doesn’t gain a majority. The BJP currently leads in 24 seats and Congress in 12.
 

Early numbers indicate that the BJP is leading in 24 seats, while the Congress is leading in 12 assembly constituencies. National People’s Party (NPP) is leading in 10 seats and JDU in 6 seats. 

The BJP was ahead in 26 seats and the Congress in 13 constituencies in the initial rounds of counting of votes in Manipur. NPP leads in 7 seats, while JD(U) in 5. Counting of votes for 60 assembly seats in Manipur began at 8 am on Thursday under tight security and strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols, officials said.
 

•    Former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh is leading in Thoubal district by a margin of 472 votes. The Thoubal Assembly Constituency in 2017 was won by INC candidate Okram Ibobi Singh.
•    Kuki People’s Alliance candidate Kimneo Haokip Hangshing is currently leading in Saikul by 289 votes. Formed in January, the little-known party, aimed at representing Kuki interests, put up candidates in only 2 seats: Saikul and Singhat.
•    In Heirok constituency, BJP’s Thokchom Radhesyam Singh is leading by a margin of 109 votes.
 

In a huge boost for BJP, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh is currently leading after first round of counting, by 2,598 votes in the Heingang constituency. Congress candidate Saratchanda Singh is trailing. Singh has been the MLA of Heingang since 2002.

In a huge victory for Bhartiya Janata Party, the party is nearing the majority mark in Manipur, in early trends. At 10 am, BJP is leading in 26 seats while Congress in 13, NPP in 7 and JD(U) in 5.

•    NPP – Chingai, Wangoi
 

The latest trends show BJP leading in 19 seats, while Congress is losing with 10 as it is leading in 9, NPP in 7 and JD(U) in 5.

As per Election Commission (EC), BJP is staying ahead in Heirok constituency. In Manipur’s Heirok constituency, BJP’s Thokchom Radhesyam Singh is leading by a margin of 109 votes. Congres candidate Moirangthem Okendro is trailing.

Meanwhile, the state unit is preparing for celebrations at party office, even as CM Biren Singh said that he prayed for peace in Manipur and return of BJP government. 

“I have prayed to God, that the coming five years would be tantamount to the last 5 years with peace and development and that BJP forms government with full majority, said Manipur CM N Biren Singh.”

According to trends at 9:35 am, BJP is leading in 13 seats while Congress in 8, NPP in 5 and JD(U) in 4.

He offered prayers at Shree Govindajee Temple in Imphal, on verdict day for Assembly elections.

Some of the main constituencies to look out for is Thoubal, where former Chief Minister and Congress candidate Okram Ibobi Singh is contesting; Heingang, which is the home constituency for Manipur CM Nongthombam Biren Singh; Uripok, where Deputy CM Joykumar is contesting. Other constituencies to watch out closely include Wangkhei, Moirang, Kakching, Thangmeiband and Keisamthong.

According to early trends, BJP is leading in 5 seats while Congress in 4 seats and others in 4. Meanwhile, JD(U) and NPP are yet to open their account. 

The first round of counting of postal ballot votes is currently underway in Imphal East district’s Khundrakpam, Heingang, Kshetrigao, Yaiskul and Keirao constituencies. Second round of voting is currently underway in Lamlai, Khurai, Thongju, Wangkhei and Andro ACs constituencies. 
 

With the counting of postal ballot votes currently underway in Manipur, early numbers show the BJP leading in four seats and Congress in three seats, others- one seat. While it could take hours to get a clear picture of the voters’ verdict, the initial trends start emerging soon after the counting of postal ballots starts. The counting of electronic voting machines (EVM) commenced at 8.30 am.

Poll-bound Manipur’s youngest candidate Usham Manglem wants to serve the people of his constituency if elected and work towards improving education, health and agriculture in his area. A 25-year-old National People’s Party candidate who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Manipur University said, “My passion for a good education system, proper healthcare infrastructure, empowering youth and promoting self-reliance made me enter electoral politics.”

The early trends show Congress leading in 3 gaining 2 seats, while BJP leads in 1 seat, just contrary to what exit polls have predicted with BJP emerging victorious with clear majority. 
 

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said it was the BJP’s support base lay in the Imphal Valley and the Kuki heartland in the two-hill district. “This time, we shall make it by ourselves,” he said. The Chief Minister also said that AFSPA was not an issue in the elections, and peace prevailed in most areas except for some hill border areas. He also said he was confident that he would become the Chief Minister for the second time.

The counting of votes is a transparent process. There is a standard operating procedure under which we conduct the counting. Authorised polling agents of the political parties are allowed to come inside the counting centre.
 

In the 2017 Manipur Assembly elections, the Congress party emerged as the single largest party with 28 seats, while the BJP won 21 seats. However, the BJP and its allies - Conrad Sangma's National People's Party (NPP) and Nagaland's Naga People's Front (NPF)- formed a 5-year government in the state.

A candidate drawing a lot of attention in Manipur is Thounaojam Brinda, a 2012 batch former cop who named the chief minister in a drug scandal and is now contesting on a Janata Dal (United) ticket from Yaiskul constituency. She is taking on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran Thokchom Satyabrata Singh. The former lady super cop this time is all about victory and confidence.

The JD (U), which has become a key player in the Manipur Assembly election, has warned of staging a dharna by its MPs if they see any foul play during counting of votes slated for Thursday. To keep vigil in the counting process, five JD(U) MPs shall be camping in Imphal, said the party’s general secretary Afaque Ahmad Khan in a statement. “If the party gets any complaints from the JD (U) candidates about any foul play during counting, the Members of Parliament shall sit in dharna in front of the respective counting centre,” it said.
 

Exit polls have mostly predicted that the BJP would be emerging as the single-largest party in Manipur, where counting of votes will begin at 8 am today. The ruling BJP and its two estranged allies — National People’s Party (NPP) and Naga People’s Front (NPF) — fought the elections separately.

The result for the Manipur Assembly elections 2022 is being declared today (March 10) and the counting will begin at 8 am. The first phase of voting was held on February 28, while the second phase for 22 seats was held on March 5. The first phase of polling in Manipur was marred by stray incidents of violence and a repoll being ordered in 12 polling stations.
