Mangaluru: Police seize 100 kg drug-laced chocolates from two shops
Police in Mangaluru shut down two shops after discovering approximately 100 kg of chocolates laced with illegal and addictive substances, sourced from North India to target school and college students. The seized chocolates are being analyzed in forensic laboratories. The police have been conducting counselling sessions to address the drug issue among students in the city.

Based on a tip-off about a person named Bechan Sonkar from Uttar Pradesh allegedly selling 'Bong'-based chocolates, the Pandeshwar police conducted raids on two shops owned by Manohar Shet in Rathaveedhi, Falneer area. During the operation, approximately 100 kg of chocolates laced with drugs were seized, and the shops were shut down.

It has been reported that these particular chocolates were being sourced from North India, with the aim of targeting school and college students as consumers. The chocolates are believed to contain the leaves of the weed, making them a concerning product for young consumers.
The seized chocolates have been sent to forensic laboratories for analysis, and the police are awaiting the results to take appropriate action.
Rumours circulating in the town raised concerns about the chocolates being sold with illegal substances, prompting Inspector Raghavendra to lead a team to investigate the matter. The police's efforts were fruitful and led them to discover the drug-laced chocolates.

To address the growing drug issue among students, the Mangaluru police have been conducting counselling sessions for children in the presence of their parents. During one of these sessions, information about the sale of such chocolates came to light.Â
The chocolates were reportedly being imported from Kerala and other states, making Mangaluru a hub for these illicit activities. The prevalence of illegal drugs in the city has been alarming, with students being supplied with drugs like Cocaine and Morphine.
