Lakhimpur Kheri case: Union Minister's son Ashish being questioned by SIT

Ashish Mishra is being questioned with regard to claims made by farmers that he was on the steering wheel of the vehicle that rammed into protesting farmers, killing four of them and injuring few others.

Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Teni's son Ashish Mishra is being questioned after he showed up at the Crime Branch office in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri in connection with the violence that erupted on October 3 that claimed 8 lives.

Ashish is being questioned with regard to claims made by farmers that he was on the steering wheel of the vehicle that rammed into protesting farmers, killing four of them and injuring few others.

Ashish has been named in the FIR filed by the Uttar Pradesh Police in the case.

There had been reports that Ashish had gone undergone since his alleged role in the incident came to the fore. In fact, the Uttar Pradesh government had on Friday informed the Supreme Court that if Ashish did not show up for questioning by 11 am on Saturday, he would have to face the "rigour of law".

Following the incident, violence erupted with angry farmers torching the vehicles allegedly belonging to the Union minister's son and lynched two of those who allegedly in the jeep that mowed down farmers.

The Opposition has been seeking the arrest of Ashish Mishra in the case.

The Supreme Court too had lamented the inability of the authorities to nab those named in the FIR of the case, which the bench termed as that of brutal murder.

However, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday made it clear that no action will be taken under any pressure.

Speaking to media persons, Yogi Adityanath said the government is digging into the details of the incident.

Dismissing the allegation that there may be attempts being made to save the Union minister's son in the case, the chief minister that if anyone has evidence in this regard, they could share it.

He reiterated that there would be no injustice with anyone.
