Signatories of the Gupkar Declaration, including PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and National Conference president Farooq Abdullah,  met at the latter's residence.

The meeting is aimed at working out a future course of action with regard to the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, which was revoked by the Centre last year.

This is the first time signatories of the Gupkar Declaration will meet since the events of August 2019

Mufti, who was in detention for 14 months, was released on Tuesday.

What is Gupkar declaration?

The Gupkar declaration was formulated a day before the abrogation of Article 370 at an all-party meeting that was called on August 4, 2019, at the residence of Farooq Abdullah. The parties formulated consensus that they would protect and defend the identity, autonomy, and special status of Jammu and Kashmir together.

On August 22, 2020, mainstream political parties in the Valley issued a joint declaration reiterating their commitment to fight for restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's special status.
