Bhaderwah: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on September 2 took his life by shooting himself. According to reports, the ASI shot himself with his service rifle in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district.

The deceased is identified as Amrit Bhardwaj of the 33rd battalion. The 52-year-old man shot himself soon after returning to his barrack in the premises of police complex at Kotli here after his night shift duty, according to reports.

The ASI allegedly shot himself at around 7:30 am and he was immediately rushed to sub-district hospital where doctors declared him dead.

A case under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered at Bhaderwah Police Station and further investigation is on.

The body of the deceased would be handed over to his unit after completion of legal formalities, including COVID-19 test and post-mortem. It is still unknown as to why the officer committed the crime.

The body of Bhardwaj, a resident of Bharlipur village of Assam, bore four bullet marks, the reports added.
