Bengaluru: Cricket is seen as a religion in India and there are followers across all sections. Sadly, the popularity of the game is being misused by culprits, who use the opportunity in betting and gambling. Sensing that the culprits are involved in illegal betting as Sri Lanka is touring India for T20 and one-day matches along with big bash league kick-starting in Australia, the central crime branch of Bengaluru (CCB) had activated their information network. With the right information, they raided a house and caught the miscreants red handed.

Gambling took place during the match between Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades on Friday. The police, which raided a house in Annapoorneshwari Nagar Police limits yesterday night, took all the four into custody and those who are on the run are being tracked with the information from the arrested. In the raid, they seized Rs 1,05,000 cash, one laptop and nine mobile phones.

The raid was led by joint commissioner crime Sandeep Patil and DCP crime Kuldeep Kumar Jain. With Indian cricket team gearing up for more matches in the coming days, the CCB has alerted its informants and deployed officers in strategic spots where gambling is touted to take place.
