Bengaluru: Bengaluru has over 20,000 COVID-19 cases and BBMP commissioner BH Anil Kumar has been batting for an extension of lockdown. The Government of Karnataka has transferred the BBMP commissioner and has appointed former BBMP chief N Manjunath Prasad in his place.

Manjunath Prasad will also continue to hold the post of principal secretary to the Revenue Department along with the BBMP Commissioner's post.

Many believe that extension of lockdown had become a bone of contention between CM BS Yediyurappa and Anil Kumar and hence he was replaced.

Authorities maintain that the decision to replace Manjunath Prasad in his place was due to the former chief's understanding of the workings of the unit as he has helmed the office for a brief term previously.

Anil Kumar will now head the Public Enterprises Department as additional chief secretary.
