Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami announces progress towards launching Rudrapur Medical College with 100 MBBS seats in 2027-28, following Central Government directions to the NMC.
The state of Uttarakhand has now made a landmark move with regard to the expansion of medical education, which involves the proposed initiation of academic activities at Pandit Ram Sumer Shukla Smriti Government Medical College in Rudrapur from the academic year 2027-28. According to reports, the college will have 100 MBBS seats, as per the news announced by the Chief Minister of the state Pushkar Singh Dhami on his official social media handle.
As per the information released by the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, the directions for the same have been received from the Central Government to the National Medical Commission (NMC).
The development will help the medical college make progress towards becoming a reality; however, the regulatory processes and formality still need to be completed for the college to commence classes and admit students.
PM Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister JP Nadda have been appreciated for their contribution in the matter, as per the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.
Rudrapur Medical College: 100 MBBS Seats Proposed from 2027-28
Situated in Rudrapur, Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand, the Pandit Ram Sumer Shukla Smriti Government Medical College will add more scope for the students willing to study medicine.
Such an intake capacity as 100 medical students in every academic year can open new doors for prospective medical students in this state. The availability of more seats for medical education will help in making professional studies closer to home, subject to admission criteria and admission process.
But availability of seats and starting of admissions will totally depend upon meeting of all necessary regulatory norms and on admission process of the college.
Uttarakhand MBBS Seats: How Would This Benefit Medical Students?
There is no doubt that providing more seats for medical education is crucial for Uttarakhand because of the geographical location of the state which makes it difficult for some people to get the necessary health care services.
It is hoped that this proposed medical college will further strengthen the infrastructure of medical education in the state.
PM Narendra Modi, JP Nadda Thank CM Pushkar Singh Dhami
The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand welcomed the move and thanked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister JP Nadda for their support.
He further stated that this will help in the expansion of medical education as well as healthcare services in Uttarakhand. The directions issued by the Central Government to NMC are indeed an important step towards the process.
Uttarakhand Health Services: Where Next?
Medical colleges can assist in the provision of healthcare services through their affiliated hospitals, apart from educating doctors. Thus, the planned launch at Rudrapur might prove to be significant for the medical facilities of the region.
What Happens Next?
Apart from the task of doctor training, the other contribution that these institutions can make to the provision of health care services is through their associated hospitals. The planned establishment in Rudrapur may thus assume importance from another angle too.
At present, the most important event would be the proposed initiation of academic activities with 100 MBBS seats in 2027-28. Any future development will depend upon the fulfillment of the required procedural formalities and release of the admissions notification.
