Loktantrik Janata Dal chief Sharad Yadav's daughter Subhashini Raj Rao has joined the Congress ahead of the Bihar elections.

After joining the party, Subhashini, who is a social worker by occupation, said that she plans to take forward the responsibility of continuing the fight of the 'Mahagathbandhan' in Bihar, as her father too was always in favour of that.

"I thank Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for giving me this opportunity. Sharad Yadav is not actively taking part in the Bihar elections as he is unwell. He has always supported the Mahagathbandhan. It is my responsibility to take this fight forward and to take Bihar to greater heights," she said.

Subhashini is also expected to contest in the forthcoming Bihar elections.

Congress, CPI, CPM are part of the "Mahagathbandhan" (grand alliance) under the leadership of Rashtriya Janata Dal.

Earlier in the day, LJD ruled out joining hands with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. In a statement, the LJD vowed to strive hard to bring 'more cohesion among the secular forces in the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar'.
