Bengaluru: 'Rail coach restaurant’ to open at KSR, Sir M Vishweshwaraiah railway station; check details
The Kranti Veera Sangolli Rayanna and Sir M Vishweshwaraiah railway stations in Bengaluru will soon have 'Railcoach' themed restaurants. These luxury restaurants made from renewed railway coaches will offer a variety of affordable dishes, displaying Karnataka's heritage and Indian Railways' history. The restaurants aim to provide a comfortable and enjoyable dining experience for passengers.
The Kranti Veera Sangolli Rayanna railway station of Bengaluru (KSR railway station) and Sir M Vishwshwaraiah railway stations, both will soon get ‘Railcoach’ themed restaurants. Passengers will be able to enjoy the luxury of eating food in the railway-themed restaurants at Bengaluru.
The South Western Railway (SWR) has already built a rail coach restaurant at the Hubballi railway station and has gotten positive feedback from the public. Therefore, the railway department has decided to open similar restaurants in Bengaluru railway stations.

These restaurants will be nearer to the entrance of the railway station and are set to open for the public by the end of October. Railway officials said that the construction work will commence soon.
The railway coaches, which are either ruined or gone old, are being renewed for the ‘Railcoach restaurant’. The seats of the coaches will be designed so that the passengers can relax and eat their food. The coaches will contain an Air conditioning system, and display Karnataka’s heritage as well as the history of Indian Railways.
A tender was announced for the formation of a ‘Rail coach’ restaurant, last year. Om Industries Pvt ltd and Gourav Enterprises have taken the responsibility of building these rail coaches at KSR Bengaluru railway station and Sir M Vishweshwaraiah terminals, respectively. The railway officials stated that this is a 5 years agreement and the license for this project is 7.54 crores.
The engineering dept of SWR will carry out the work of installing railway tracks at the location. Post receiving the confirmation from the authorities, the railway coaches will be installed at the location within a 60-day period.
Types of dishes
These restaurants will be open 24*7 and 50 passengers can be accommodated at once, in these coaches. North Indian, South Indian, Chinese and various other types of food will be served in these luxury coaches. The food prices will be affordable to the passengers, stated a railway official.

“We are planning to install more railway coaches in these restaurants, as per the customer’s feedback. For now, one coach per station will be installed for the time being” said Kusuma Hariprasad, Addn. Manager of SWR Bengaluru division.
‘Rail coach’ restaurants will be open to the public by October end. These restaurants will give a comfortable and luxurious experience for the passenger and serve delicious food, she added.
