A 40-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh was attacked with acid on Saturday, April 15, allegedly by her husband and in-laws. Rehana Hussain was served a triple talaq via phone call, and she refused to accept it after which she was attacked.

Rehana Hussain reportedly received burns below her waist, and the local police have registered FIR against five people, reported the Times of India. On her complaint, she stated that Rehana went to her in-laws' house on April 15 when she was attacked by them with acid.

Rehana is married to Matlub Hussain from last 18 years, and after a few years, the couple shifted to the USA. However, in 2011 they returned to their native village in UP amidst marital discord. Soon after, Matlub got a job in New Zealand and left without Rehana, TOI quoted Neuria circle officer (CO), Nishank Sharma, as saying.

About seven years ago, Matlub over the phone served triple talaq to Rehana which she refused to accept, and she initiated legal action to claim her fundamental rights.
