TMC to hold silent march in Bengal today over attack on Mamata Banerjee

Accusing the planned attack on Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram, Trinamool Congress general secretary Partha Chatterjee said the Trinamool Congress was on its way to protest the incident. The party will hold a state-wide protest from 3pm to 5pm on Friday (March 12) demanding a neutral role for the Election Commission.
 

Trinamool Congress workers will hold a silent procession with black flags in every district and block of the state. At the same time, the Trinamool Congress will lodge a complaint with the National Election Commission in Delhi on Friday.
 

TMC leader Partha Chatterjee said, “Saugata Roy, Derek O'Brien, Kakali Ghosh Dastidar, Shantanu Sen, Pratima Mandal, Shatabdi Roy will lodge a written protest with the National Election Commission.”
 

“The Election Commission of India has appointed P Nirajnayan as the new DG and IGP of West Bengal in place of Virendra. Soon after the change despite having Z+ category security, not a single police was seen near the CM. In order to protest the violent attack we will hold a silent protest rally on March 12 across the state,” he added.
 

Partha Chatterjee also said, “It was a pre-planned attack. Those who hit Mamata Banerjee must be punished immediately. Attempts to attack Mamata Banerjee have been made in the past as well.”
 

In a video message from her hospital, Mamata Banerjee said she has sustained injuries in a hand, leg and ligament during the attack, but will resume work in the next two to three days.
 

Meanwhile, the Bengal BJP said the party will not indulge in any politics over her injuries but will demand a comprehensive probe into the incident since she had alleged conspiracy behind it.
