Have to stand by the side of people: Mamata vows to campaign in wheelchair
With leg injury, West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee will again enter the election battle from Monday (March 15). If all goes well, she will start campaigning from Jhargram district by sitting in a wheelchair.
According to sources, the Trinamool Congress election manifesto for the 2021 assembly elections will be released on Sunday (March 14). The manifesto was supposed to be released on Thursday (March 11), but due to the accident of Mamata Banerjee, the date had to be postponed.
In a video message, Mamata urged people to remain calm and said that she will return to election campaigning in the next two to three days. She also said her injury will not interrupt the election campaign and that she will use a wheelchair for campaigning if needed.
The Chief Minister returned home from SSKM hospital on Friday (March 12) evening. She had sustained serious injuries after being allegedly attacked in Nandigram by unknown persons on the day she filed her nomination on Wednesday. Injuries occur in a few more parts of her body. From there, she was quickly brought to SSKM hospital. After the medical examination, the doctors did an initial plaster on her injured leg. The plaster was removed and another plaster was applied on the same day. Special type of 'plaster shoe' was given to the CM.
The doctors wanted the chief minister to stay in the hospital for another 48 hours. In addition, physicians advised her to take rest for at least 7 days. Mamata insisted to go back home from the hospital. The doctors are going to examine her again in 7 days.
Returning home, the Trinamool leader said, "I am saying after all the injuries and pains, I have to go to the people and stand up. Because elections are a big political struggle. People are my strength there. So, it is more important for me to reach out to people than to suffer."
On Tuesday (March 16), Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to hold three meetings at Garbeta, Keshiari and Khargpur rural assembly constituencies in West Midnapore.
